everyone agreed went very well for a first try. Exchanges took place

alternatively on corners 4 and 2. In the interests of following the race

better, next time (July X), if you can, come with a team partner already

selected, and wear similar jerseys. Before the next event, we'll take time

to practice exchanges. Thanks to these pioneering participants:

An ozone alert did nothing to slow down times, as four people or pairs come in under the hour mark. Skip Rogers more or less single-handedly broke the 2-man 25 mile records at 57.08, with Henry Dimmick doing a brilliant job of hanging on for 50 laps. It was an awesome performance for both. Jody Lobert and Melissa Ondesko came in at 58.16,  a good time, but considerably behind their 25-mile tandem record of 57.20. Two new riders are welcomed to the one-hour club: Steve Cummings at 57.54, and Steve Marlette at 59.51.

A. Henry Dimmick tries to break his 200-meter flying start mark of 13.07, but falls short at 13.33. David Petrou turns in a respectable 14.38. No other starters in this event.

RESULTS  FOR FRIDAY, AUGUST  26, 2005. 12 PARTICIPANTS

25-Mile TT. Sprinkly weather didn't keep away the hard core for the last Friday Event of the summer, and times were impressively fast. Five riders came in under an hour, two of them for the first time. Congratulations to new members of the one-hour club Turner Johnson and Ed Johnson. Steve Marlette scored a hat trick by coming in under an hour for the third time in three tries this summer, each time with a faster time. Doug Williamson posted a personal best at 55.34,  which is fourth-fastest time recorded at the track. Skip Rogers bettered his best time as well, breaking the 57 minute barrier. I had the feeling a lot of the other riders cored personal bests as well.

Due to an uneven number of participants, no team-race was held. Pat Lyons pledges $100 in prize money for the last track event of the year, on August 25. Apologies to all, but mainly to Jason Goldberg and Jim Andreyo, for a points mixup leading into the final sprint run-off, which, in  any case, was won by Jason, who I thought was tied for points going in, but actually was ahead.

RESULTS OF TRACK OMNIUM, JUNE 13, 2008.

Only 8 track riders showed up, but it was a good group. Help get out the single-speed riders for June 27. 16 riders would be even better. Practice your Madison slings.

Bob Gottlieb was dethroned, spoiling his perfect record going back to the beginning of last year. Steve Bedilion proved it's possible to draw #8 in a Keirin and still some in first.

Thanks to Michelle Kuhn, Mark Powder, Paul Ricci, and to Bob Gottlieb for providing the motor.

5 places were counted in each event, with total points going toward omnium award. Each participant scored in the points.

RESULTS FOR JUNE 27 TRACK RACES

Only 8 riders, but the level of racing was top-notch and the events were closely contested. An Australian pursuit, held for the first time, turned out to be popular. The course seems a bit too long for a good Madison, but part of the problem is telling the teams apart. Maybe itÕs time to introduce numbers at least for this event. Steve Bedilion was again the man to beat. Thanks to Michelle  Kuhn and Mark  Powder.

RESULTS FOR TRACK NIGHT, FRIDAY, AUGUST 22. 15 PARTICIPANTS

Fifteen closely matched riders showed what a lot of potential track racing has at the oval. Several new people turned up and put in a good ride. Jason Goldberg is finally getting into form, and won the omnium, but the points were close. Thanks to Bob Gottlieb and Pat Lyons for providing the after-event beer, and thanks to Bob for the derny. Thanks especially to Mark Powder for a seasonÕs worth of  voluntary work. This was the last track event of the season. We turned out the lights as Adam Amrheim, winner of the slow race, was still doing a track stand. HeÕs probably still there.

RESULTS FOR 25 MILE TT, AUGUST 29, 2008 (LAST EVENT OF SEASON). 16 PARTICIPANTS

A good turnout and some good times recorded, but we broke our season's record for an accident-free season when Eric Schaffer went down on corner number two when someone flatted in front of him and veered. Eric emerged with contusions, a very sore head (he was unconscious for at least five minutes) and, most painfully, a separated shoulder that either may, or may not, have to be operated on. His bicycle and helmet had no scratches. The obligatory distance between time-trialers is supposed to care care of such things, but it didn't work out that way on Friday. A two-man team and a fixed-gear bike were in the mix and, even though people made an honest effort to keep their distance, the team and the fixed gear worked to glue the group together, with constant shifting back and forth of position and no  one able to separate him(her)self. We'll have to draw up rules for next year covering what to do in such situations (like following the chief referee's instructions to fall back when he says to do so). The best times were not contaminated by these goings on. Three people broke the hour record, with Tim Drook in first at  58.05. Not assigning any time penalties, I still can't in good faith recognize the times of people that rode for half of the race in that constantly morphing group as valid for record-keeping. For what it's worth, Eric Schaffer's computer showed 17.5 miles covered at more than 25 mph, so he was on track to break the hour when he went over the curb.
