PITTSBURGH MASTERS VELO CLUB (PMVC)
FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE TRACK
RESULTS FOR 2007
SEASON RESULTS OF PMVC TIME-TRIAL AND TRACK SERIES,
WASHINGTON BLVD. TRACK, PITTSBURGH, PA, JUNE-AUGUST, 2007
RESULTS FOR JUNE 1, 2007. 5-MILE TIME TRIAL
27 PARTICIPANTS (RECORD NUMBER)
An evening to dream for, as fast as it's ever been. Totally still air. Five times under 11 minutes, and a new course 5-mile record for both men and women. Many personal bests, which is only to be expected, given the number of ridiculously exensive TT bikes that showed up. The break-down by age-groups is interesting. We have really strong 40+ and 50+contingents, with 5 out of the top 10 coming from there.
I can make subtraction and spelling errors, so bring possible mistakes to my attention, and I'll be glad to check them. But here are the results I have:
1. 10.26 Randy Callahan (new course record, best 20-29. 28.5 mph)
2. 10.34 Eric Hodos (best 30-39)
3. 10.35 Adam Anderson

JUNE 8. RACING CANCELED DUE TO TORRENTIAL DOWNPOUR
RESULTS FOR JUNE 15, 2007. 30 PARTICIPANTS
A new participant record, and a nearly ideal evening: not too hot, and not too humid, and almost no wind. A new men's record was set - no mean feat, since the old record was set by Dan Staite. Three riders came in under 22 minutes. We are turning into something of a time-trial culture here.
Please bring mistakes to my attention.

RESULTS FOR JUNE 29, 2007. 15 MILE TIME TRIAL. 14 participants
Nice windless evening, and a new men's record set by Eric Hodos. Sorry, Skip. Thanks to Michelle Kuhn and Mark Powder for officiating.
Notice to riders of upcoming events. Time trials are based on laps, not miles. If your cyclocomputer is correctly calibrated, because of weaving in and out, you will necessarily add distance. If your computer says exactly 15 miles after the 15 mile TT, this means either that it is badly calibrated, or you haven't done the requisite number of laps, and that you have one lap to go. If you think you are in contention for a record or prize, after your finish do one complete warm-down lap and stop at the start-finish for a computer check. Check your computer against the course before you begin, so you will know what to expect at the finish.

For the small number of riders, a very eventful night. In an out-of-competition attempt, Skip Rogers, Eric Hodos, and Jeremy Kirchin shattered both the 5 and 15-mile 3/4 Team Time Trial Records (in separate attempts), not an easy feat. Also, Steve Bedilion set a new individual 15-mile mark. Congratulations to them all. Skip Rogers' teams are always poetr¥ in motion. Wish we could get some other teams down here. RESULTS FOR AUGUST 24, 2007 - LAST TRACK RACES OF THE YEAR. 12 PARTICIPANTS
This year's track racing went out in glorious style, as Pat Lyons and Bob Gottlieb of the Amstel Light Team sponsored music, a sound system, and lighting, enabling us to carry on into darkness. Unfortunately, the Amstel Girls had another more important (?) engagement, but there were for once more spectators than participants. Bob Gottlieb made a clean sweep of the summer's series, starting off the evening with a new 1-mile record of 1.59.57, finally breaking the mythical 2-minute barrier. Twelve riders doesn't sound like much, but when there are some seven events and everyone riding in every one, it makes for a full and very competitive night of racing. Here's to an even better season in 2008.

RESULTS FOR AUGUST31, 2007 - LAST TT OF THE YEAR. 25 MILE TIME TRIAL, INDIVIDUAL OR TEAMS. 16 PARTICIPANTS
Thanks to all participants this year for putting in some stupendously good times, and thanks to Michelle Kuhn, Mark Powder, Jim Andreyo, and anyone else who helped either at the time trials or the track races. Judging from the late-year enthusiasm, next year should be even bigger, especially the track nights. Special season recognition should be given to the following riders for best cumulative all-round performances at the distances of 10, 20, and 25 miles (events held at least twice):
1. Stephen Marlette 2.07.03
2. Bill Kanarek 2.10.18
3. Eric Schaffer 2.13.51
* * *
Friday night had near perfect conditions: not hot, not humid, and almost no wind. Most of the individual participants, and both of the teams, finished under an hour. Several riders established personal bests, including Ted King-Smith, who rode without the benefit of any aero equipment.
A. Out of competition: 2-Man 25-Mile Team Time Trial
55. 29 Ed Johnson and Turner Johnson
This father-and-son team did not break the existing record of 54.58 by Skip Rogers and Eric Hodos (7/18/06), but it came awfully close. Nice ride, Johnsons.
B. Out of competion: 3/4-Man 25-Mile Team Time Trial
DNF due to Joe Vallese's flat tire, but Eric Hodos and Justin Kanter kept on riding and posted a 54.21, which would have broken the existing 2-man record.
C. 25-Mile Individual Time Trial
1. 57.56 Steve Marlette
2. 58.47 Tim Drook
3. 58.56 Andy Gorski
